Is HRT Right for You?

While most menopausal women can safely take short-term hormone replacement therapy (HRT) to control symptoms of menopause, there are some women who should not take HRT.

To determine whether or not you are a candidate for HRT, your doctor will review your medical history. If he notices any of the following, he will likely not prescribe HRT:
  • History of heart attack
  • History of stroke
  • Unexplained vaginal bleeding
  • Breast cancer (active or past)
  • Active liver disease
  • Fibrocystic breast disease
  • Endometrial cancer
  • Gall bladder disease
  • History of or high risk for blood clots.

If you know you suffer from or have experienced any of the above, be sure to mention them to your doctor before starting HRT.
