hip fracture: A fracture in the femur where it connects to the body at the hip joint; there is a decreased risk of hip fracture among women on HRT.

hormone: A chemical that carries messages between cells which can control development and responses within the body.

hysterectomy: The surgical removal of the uterus; contributes to fluctuations in hormone levels and may determine treatment for symptoms of menopause.

incontinence: A lack of control of urinary function which sometimes accompanies menopause.
